Education/Background: Cindy Hernandez is a daughter of an immigrant farm working family, raised in Hood River Valley, OR. In 2011, she majored in Human Development and Family Sciences and minored in Spanish at Oregon State University. During her undergrad studies she completed a six-month internship in Guatemala where she learned about the culture and child welfare system. After graduating, she gained experience as a bilingual family advocate, bilingual youth advocate, and child protective service caseworker. She then pursued her Masters in Social Work at the University of California Berkeley. Her first placement was at Oakland Unity Schools as part of the Wellness Services Department, where she interned at La Clinica-Casa del Sol, a Latinx focused community mental health center.
